Garden Show Ireland takes place 20-22 May 2011 in the walled garden at Hillsborough Castle, Co Down. The Show, now in its seventh year, has established itself on the calendar as Northern Ireland’s annual mecca for gardeners and as a unique day out for visitors.
Hillsborough Castle is the residence of the Royal family on their visits to the province and viewers would have seen it recently when Prince William and Kate Middleton paid a visit to Hillsborough. The house and gardens as well as the historic village of Hillsborough were created by the Hill family whose direct descendant, the current Marques of Downshire, is Garden Show Ireland’s Patron.
Visitors to the Show have the unique experience of taking part in all the activities of the Show and then wandering around Hillsborough Castle’s gardens and on in to the village of Hillsborough with its heritage buildings, speciality shops and pubs.
This year I'm joining Garden Show Ireland’s team of judges and also taking part in the popular Garden Roadshow question time. Many gardening experts will be available to advise on all aspects of growing and gardening as well as creating floral arrangements or cooking with fresh ingredients grown in the garden.
