Plastic Plants in a Much Respected Garden Centre!

01 June 2010

I stood and stared. I even took a photograph to show the family.  There, in a prominent position, was a size-able display of plastic masses of pretend foliage, formed in to what looked like hanging basket liners.  The idea I was told is that two 'halves' can be joined together to form a fake topiary foliage ball. UGH! Not only do the various 'species' of foliage  not look natural  (or nice) to me, but more's the point, even if you did think they looked realistic, what on earth is a decent garden centre doing selling pretend plants.  I thought a garden centre was there to sell plants and gardening sundries  and hopefully to offer some useful advice too.  I appreciate the need to sell not-strictly gardening items in the depths of winter, but this is MAY for heavens sake, the month I would have thought there were masses of real, living plants that could be offered.   Surely plastic 'plants' in a garden centre spells the beginning of the end.  Will it be green concrete next?
